Depending on what window you want to remove first you will need access to the window tint. The method below refers to a typical car door window, however, can be applied to all the windows in your car. Here are the items you will need:

  • Handheld Steamer
  • Straight Edge Razor or Knife
  • Soapy Water In A Spray Bottle
  • Paper Towels Or Soft Clean Cloth
  • Plastic Liner (Optional)
  1. Roll your vehicle window down 14 inch –  You will need access to the edge of the tint on your car window. The recommended opening would be 1/4 inch. This will allow you access to the edge of the window tint as well as the rest of the tint on the window.
  2. Using Your Steamer Steam both the outside and the inside of the windows – Using a handheld steamer (Any handheld steamer will work) for this project. Holding the steamer approximately 1–2 inches away from the window you will want to steam the entire outside of the window first. Next, steam the inside of the window. The method that works best is to work in long, sweeping motions from the top to the bottom attempting to steam the glass as evenly as possible.

Tip: Why do you steam the outside? Steaming the outside helps heat up the window enough to dissolve the adhesive. If you are removing window tint on the rear window you will not need to steam the outside.
  3. Time To Remove window Tint – Using a straight razor or knife lift up the edge of the tint. Then once you have the edge of the window tint loose pull a little to get an edge you can hold onto. Grab the edge and spray a little of the soapy solution on the inside of the window tint next to the glass.
  4. Pull Back The Tint Slowly While Applying Steam – Working slowly at an angle across the window, pull the tint down from the top of the window toward the bottom of the window. While pulling apply steam as needed. If you reach a couple of stubborn spots, apply more steam or use your soapy bottle solution and the razor. Tip: Use caution with the steamer follow manufactures directions.
  5. Clean up any remaining adhesive – Using your soapy solution or a glass cleaner apply generously and clean the window with a paper towel so as to remove any remaining adhesive or dirt left from the removed window tint.

Tip: Wipe down the window edges and door panel with a clean cloth to remove any excess water.

Repeat the method on each window you want to remove tint – Use the same method to remove all of the tint on your windows if desired. Take your time and ensure you clean up any excess water from the steamer as you go.

Tip: You may want to use plastic on the interior of the back seat to collect the water from the steam if you are removing window tint from the back window.
